GAS LPG

GAS (LPG)

Product description

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) refers to two hydrocarbon gases butane and propane or their combination which are kept in a liquid state. Small amounts of other compounds such as propylene and butylene are also present in LPG. It is primarily used for heating applications and as fuel for vehicles. Additionally LPG is utilized in the production of aerosols and as a refrigerant gas in cooling appliances such as refrigerators and freezers. LPG is a byproduct of natural gas processing and crude oil refining in refineries. It has an energy content of 46.1 MJ/kg which is higher than gasoline and fuel oil producing more energy per kilogram. However its energy content per volume is lower due to its gaseous state and lower density. One liter of LPG weighs between 500 and 580 grams while one liter of gasoline weighs between 710 and 770 grams. LPG is converted to liquid form at 21 degrees Celsius under a maximum pressure of 8 kg/cm² At the time of production LPG is colorless odorless and tasteless. For safety purposes sulfur compounds called mercaptans (including ethyl mercaptan and methyl mercaptan) are added to give it a distinct odor. LPG should not be confused with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) which is primarily methane and ethane liquefied for easier and more cost-effective transportation. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is also natural gas that has been compressed to occupy less volume.
