BITUMEN 85/100

Product description

Bitumen is a black, viscous material used for waterproofing and asphalt production. It comes in various types, each with specific applications. Derived from petroleum, bitumen is typically produced in oil refineries. It is a dense, highly viscous hydrocarbon derived from crude oil and is classified into two main types: natural and refined. The natural type is found in oil sands and lakes, while the refined type is obtained from the distillation of crude oil. Bitumen contains approximately 2% oxygen, 11% hydrogen, and 87% carbon. As a high molecular weight hydrocarbon, bitumen comprises oils, resins, and asphaltenes, with asphaltenes contributing 5% to 30% of the content, which imparts hardness. Bitumen is produced using two primary methods: direct distillation and air blowing, which can be performed in batch or continuous processes. It is primarily used in construction, road paving, waterproofing roads, street asphalting, and roof insulation. The product is categorized into different types and grades based on various production processes and physical tests such as penetration test, viscosity test, flash point test, solubility test, softening point test, and flexibility test, among others. Some classifications are based on the results of these tests, while others depend on the type of refining and processing methods
